I remember my sophomore year in high school reading Robert Frost’s, The Road Not Taken (for some reason my mind always wants to title his poem The Road Less Traveled). Many have their own interpretation of the poem as it can be used as a metaphor or an analogy in life itself, but because I was familiar with Christ’s parable of the broad and narrow gate, I instantly thought of this parable after being introduced to the title. Because I already had my “aha” moment when reading the scriptures on this particular parable, the poem unfortunately did not have that spark that it was intended to have, though I enjoyed reading the poem nonetheless. Like Christ’s parable, the poem referenced choosing between two roads- the author took the road less traveled. It’s truly amazing how the Father loves us so much that through Christ, He tells us His perfect will, explaining that there are two roads in life to choose from, but He straightforwardly informs uswhich road to choose. Christ says “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat; because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). Now, Christ does not venture off into a lesson describing exactly, verbatim what we should do, (remember when Christ spoke with his disciples, he purposed to speak in parables because wisdom, secrets, knowledge, and understanding about how to truly live to obtain everlasting life is only meant for those who are called according to God’s purpose) but as you study and meditate on the Word, a child of God will without a doubt began to obtain secrets to the kingdom and will see how God has laced the bible with keys and scriptures on exactly how to live-the bible being our map, blueprint, and compass for life.Since 5 I felt I did not belong here. I literally felt like an alien; like earth was not my home and deep within my spirit, I needed to go back with the Father. I would say to myself “why am I here because I don’t want to be here at all.” My spirit was always led to do different things outside of what everyone else was doing or what the majority deemed acceptable. So while reading this verse as a child and teen, I instinctively knew what it meant- simply, don’t follow the crowd or what everyone else is doing. It was already within my DNA to know that most of the time, when I see a large group of people doing something, do the opposite; take the other route. And I always did. Having the gift of discernment and following this verse since I was a child has helped me overcome much in life and I can only thank and praise our Heavenly Father for my gifts and the wisdom he gave me at such a young age. On a deeper note, the verse quoted above concludes that most people are following everyone else while they all follow the evil one to his kingdom. This is evident as we view and observe today’s society and we witness all of the disorder that is acceptable and applauded. We also can see a symbol of those who follow the narrow gate in our everyday lives. These are usually people standing for Christ, seeking God, and choosing to live a righteous life. These individuals, like Christ, are ignored, overlooked, or underestimated in life. These individuals are very few in numbers. Let’s ponder some significant scriptures regarding how our Heavenly Father instructs us how to live to honor His perfect will for us that is ultimately our destiny here on earth:After giving laws, commandments, and covenants through Moses to the holy people, God instructs Moses further on how to to lead them. Deuteronomy 30:15-18 states, “see, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; in that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it; but if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.” Though the context of these scriptures were written in the Old Testament for God’s chosen during that time frame, they, like all others are given for inspiration and are still vital for God’s chosen today.Verses 19 and 20 ties it all in and once again, God tells us what road to choose:“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live;” “That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”More scriptures for pondering and understanding:“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).“Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God” (James 4:4).“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15).“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps” (Proverbs 16:9).“There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand” (Proverbs 19:21).“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12). Quite plainly has our Father mapped out our destiny for us. The bible is used as the spiritual guidance we need to know exactly what we are to do on this earth to live out our full potential on earth. Many may read all the scriptures in the bible on gifts, talents, and purpose and still question what specifically is their purpose. I was in this dilemma for a great amount of time and I really had to pray and seek God for what it is I am to do in life. Some have one or two specific gifts and some have numerous. In any case, we are to use ALL of the gifts He has given us. Some gifts may be discovered early or later on in life, but one must seek guidance on what they should be doing for that particular season they are in.Once you have decided to choose life through Christ and choose God to be your head, you have inevitably chosen a beautiful, rewarding destiny here on earth that will lead to a greater future for eternity. This is the path to everlasting life.Rare jewels must “strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able” (Luke 13:24) and know that God’s purpose is the very BEST we can ever dream of having. We must choose His ways and trust that He will direct each and every one of us until the end, as He remains faithful. |
